Dr. Hiranthi Pathirana is a Chartered Architect and a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Integrated Design, Faculty of Architecture, University of Moratuwa. She received her Ph.D on the subject of Concepts, Principles and Methodologies of Sri Lankan Jewellery. Her current research areas include nature-based design, “green” design concepts, ethnic jewellery and contemporary techniques of jewellery designs. She is as an architect and designer, a resource person for National Gem and Jewellery Authority and she has also served as critique for Final Year Graduation Projects at the University of Visual & Performing Arts,
About the Book
This publication aims to give a general introduction to Sinhalese jewellery and to understand its significance beyond its use as a mere object of beauty. The importance ascribed to jewellery as it evolved from basic to sophisticated forms manifested through art, material and technology. Jewellery can be considered as one of the profound needs of man for adornment of the body. It is considered as a unique art form. Jewellery deserves to be studied with scientific rationalisation considering all its manifestations in human life.
